Letter of Declination

A letter of declination is a letter that is sent in response to a job offer or the offer of another similar position that they wish to decline. For example, if you applied for a job, and received a job offer back, but didn’t want to accept the job offer, you would send a letter of declination stating your intentions.

Tips for writing a letter of declination

-          Be polite: you never know when you may apply for a similar job from the same employer again

-          Be appreciative: always thank the sender for the opportunity

Daniel K. Forsythe

2548 Modoc Alley
Dixie, ID 83525

Dear Mr. Forsythe,

I am thrilled that I was chosen for the job of Head Architect and John Boise Architects Inc.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to accept this position, as I have already started a new job at another firm. It is more suitable for me than the job at John Boise Architects Inc. would have been.

I want to thank you for choosing me for this position. I am honored that I beat out all the other candidates for this very prestigious job.

I hope we may be able to work together in the future!

Best regards,

Terrance A. Olszewski
